When a new recruit joins a branch of the US armed forces, they go through a bootcamp to learn the skills and build the muscles they will need in order to deliver excellent performance as individuals, and to come together with other recruits as a high-performing team.
But what happens in corporate life when an individual is promoted to a management/leadership position? More often than not, they get thrown into the deep end of the pool and we hope they learn to swim.
The concept of bringing a group of newer managers or directors together as a cohort to go through a several month long bootcamp has become a popular way to build individual and team strengths. Rather than a day or two of training, a leadership bootcamp takes that learning a step further so participants get to practice the skills in real time.
